Why this is important?

Good sleep is vital for your health, especially as you get older. Your phone might seem like a distraction, but when used the right way, it can help you build a better bedtime routine. With calming sounds, blue light filters, and app timers to reduce late-night activity, your phone can gently guide your body and brain into sleep mode.
Even if it may seem like a new concept and you may not trust your device to help you sleep, it’s all very simple - we’ll show you the settings and apps you can try, and you can go at your own pace.
Sleep Better Using Your Phone - Video
In this video, we are going to show you how to use your phone’s night settings, calming apps, and sound features to help you relax before bed and improve your sleep over time.
Don’t worry if some or all of this information is new - you can pause, rewind, or rewatch anytime.

Step-by-step:

1. Open your phone’s app store and search for free sleep or meditation apps like “Calm,” “Sleep Sounds,” or “Insight Timer.” 2. Install an app and explore features like relaxing music, breathing exercises, or guided meditations. 3. Use the app before bed to help wind down - many of these apps offer sleep timers so it fades out as you fall asleep. 4. Go to your phone’s settings and find “Display” or “Brightness,” then turn on “Night Mode” or “Blue Light Filter” to reduce screen glare. 5. Use “Do Not Disturb” or “Bedtime Mode” in your settings to silence notifications overnight. 6. Lower your screen brightness manually or use auto-brightness to make evening phone use more gentle on the eyes. 7. Try to avoid screens right before bed and a good idea is to use calming audios instead to settle the mind.
